We left our overnight camp at a swimming pool near Cara Sucia early to beat the heat on the climb up to the Ruta de las Flores. Of course, this did not really work, because we had already covered 30 kilometers by the time we reached the turnoff to the mountain road.
Here in Nicaragua, the thermometer reads 35°C in the shade, the humidity is around 60%, and sweat is running down our foreheads even when we’re not doing anything. It’s hard to imagine that three weeks ago we were still freezing in San Cristóbal, Mexico! But to write this post, I’m happy to transport myself back into the cold.
The new hotel room in Puebla was indeed ready, so we were able to spend the extra night there to recover from my stomach upset. As so often before, we were surprised at how well things work out in Mexico!
For the first time since the start of our trip, we did not spend Christmas on the road somewhere, but spent the celebrations with Markus and his family in Guadalajara.
The sun was already shining brightly when we arrived on the ferry in Mazatlan at 10 in the morning.
