If you find pictures more expressive than words, we recommend going directly to the gallery. Otherwise, here is a detour via the text…Our journey through Alaska so far has been nothing more than a significant detour. If we had travelled directly from Anchorage to Palmer, it would have taken us half a day. However, it took us two weeks.
Cycling
Sydney – Honolulu – Anchorage
Since our last update three weeks ago, we have traveled 12000 kilometers, experienced different climate zones, and met a wide variety of people. But first things first: we will start where we left off last time, in Alice Springs.
The center of Australia
We had unnecessarily feared the headwind between Yulara and the turn-off towards Kings Canyon. It was less strong and we were stronger than expected😉.
From Oodnadatta to Uluru
Carrying 18 liters of water and 12 kilograms of food per person, we left Marree in the evening and pitched our tent next to the road a few kilometers later. It was a good feeling to finally be on the Oodnadatta Track and not just thinking about what would happen if… The 600 kilometers of dirt road through pretty desolate landscapes had sounded more threatening beforehand than now, when we experienced them.
Silo art and tailwind
After the full program in Tasmania, we did not mind lounging around on the ferry and waiting for our return to the mainland.
